The Hermitage extends its best wishes for Saint Tatiana’s Day – the Day of Students. To mark the main day celebrating students in Russia, the museum has prepared a present – students will have the opportunity to visit the General Staff building free of charge.

From 26 January 2021, students and officer cadets studying at educational institutions in the Russian Federation will be able to visit the General Staff building of the State Hermitage with a complimentary ticket on any day that the museum is open.
Today the General Staff building is a centre for the study and presentation of modern and contemporary art. Its displays are particularly interesting to young people. The halls of the Eastern Wing of the General Staff contain a state-of-the art museum complex in which exhibitions of famous world-ranking artists are held. On show in the special display spaces at the moment are works by Bill Viola, Dmitri Prigov, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, and a temporary exhibition of the celebrated 20th-century photographer Cecil Beaton.
In the General Staff building, visitors can see one of the world’s best collections of paintings by Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. The Sergei Shchukin and Morozov Brothers Memorial Gallery contains masterpieces by Matisse, Picasso, Maurice Denis and many others. The route around the building also includes the Carl Fabergé Memorial Halls, the Museum of the Russian Guards, the display of “The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Empire” and temporary exhibitions belonging to the “Two Palmyras” project.
Students can visit the General Staff building free of charge from Tuesdays to Sundays at the time slots beginning at 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm. On Wednesdays and Fridays, there is an additional time slot at 6 pm. The number of tickets for each time slot is limited. The duration of a visit is 2 hours.
The best way to obtain free-of-charge tickets is to make a reservation through the website tickets.hermitagemuseum.org.The registration form completed on the site must include details of an ID document for each intended visitor. One user can make an electronic reservation for a maximum of four persons for any given date. Confirmation of the reservation can be printed out or stored on a smartphone.
On the day of the visit, before the start of the time slot, a visitor should exchange the electronic confirmation for a physical entry ticket free of charge at the ticket offices in the General Staff building. You will need to present the electronic confirmation, an ID documents and a current student’s card (or service ID for cadets).
