This morning the media reported an incident -- a small quadcopter intended for use in amateur photography fell to earth near the Hermitage. Unfortunately, in pursuit of sensation our colleagues somewhat exaggerated the scale of the event.
The Hermitage wishes to clarify matters. On 7 September 2023, during a planned daytime round of the perimeter of the buildings making up the museum complex, staff of the State Hermitage's Security Service discovered an amateur civilian quadcopter – not a " pilotless aircraft". The small device had fallen near the museum building on Palace Embankment due to damaged propeller blades.
Since at present there is a ban on flying quadcopters in Saint Petersburg, the staff of the museum's Security Service inspected and checked the device in question. It was then handed over to law enforcement officials. Evidently the flight was intended for taking photographs. No indications were found of the device having any other purpose.
