The State Hermitage is continuing its tradition of annual intellectual marathons around its extensive collections.
From 27 to 29 September 2024, the Hermitage’s display facilities will become the venue for the intellectual marathon PRORossiyu [AboutRussia]. A Hermitage History of
Russian Culture. Its intensive programme includes meetings with the keepers of collections, guided tours, lectures and master classes. The guides to the world of Russian history and culture will be Hermitage researchers. The marathon begins with a lecture given by Mikhail Borisovich
Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage, in the Hermitage Theatre.
Original guided tours will take place not only in the Main Museum Complex and General Staff building, but also at the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre, the Menshikov Palace, the Museum of the Imperial Porcelain Factory and the Winter Palace of Peter the Great.
The main Hermitage laboratory for contemporary museum practices – the General Staff building – will become the setting for a series of master classes. It will also host the marathon’s culminating event – the intellectual game PRORossiyu. Teams of staff from the Hermitage, other museums and universities, as well as a group of student whizzes, will engage in a friendly contest of minds, seeking to answer questions prepared by leading specialists in the history of Russian culture.
The programme for the marathon can
be found and tickets obtained on the Russian-language part of the website.
