On 31 August 2024, the Hermitage took part in the Museums for Children festival that is held in the Summer Garden each year in the run-up to Russia’s Day of Knowledge and the start of the school year.
The Hermitage’s programme was devoted to the exhibition “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
in Russia”.
In a creative master class, children along with their parents created their own original illustrations under the guidance of teachers from the museum’s Art Studio – Igor Gazenko and Olga Sakson. Bizarre fish, a graceful deer with a cherry tree on its head, Munchausen flying over a battlefield on a cannonball were among the subjects that the young artists depicted.
A tabletop game inspired by the exhibition allowed players to take a journey around the 18th-century Russian Empire and to get acquainted with Munchausen. The game master was the Baron himself!
The events were prepared and conducted by staff of the School Centre and the Hermitage’s Volunteer Service.
