Mikhail Piotrovsky, head of the State Hermitage, spoke in the context of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum about the development of the museum at the Izvestiya studio.
In his words, despite the difficult economic situation, the “huge world of Russia” has remained at the Hermitage’s disposal. For example, an agreement on cultural collaboration with Irkutsk was signed at the Forum, and “Hermitage Days” are held each year in various cities across the country.
“Ten centres in Russia, so that will be developing more rapidly. Incidentally, we will be showing the exhibition that had to close in Amsterdam here, then we will show more about the avant-garde. The exhibition “Romanovs and Knights” will be held with us in the Hermitage,” Piotrovsky confided.
He also added that the Hermitage can collaborate with China, as a country with the highest levels of technology. At present a highly technological exhibition is already in preparation in China. Furthermore, the museum is planning contacts with Iran and India.
“Now we have the Greater Hermitage. The first stage has been accomplished, while the second stage is called the ‘Celestial Hermitage’. A maximum presence in the cloud and the creation of products already in the cloud. That is the future, because with a large number of exhibitions we have devalued the appreciation of the authentic item,” the head of the Hermitage said, summing up.
