Mikhail Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage, spoke to Yury Zinchuk on the Saint Petersburg TV channel about his first impressions of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024.
According to Mikhail Piotrovsky, Saint Petersburg is well represented at the Forum, as is traditional.
“It is pleasant that the Forum feels the same as it always did – and that is very good. I have met with some heads of world media who have come for the Forum. I’ve given three interviews, told them about the Hermitage and sent them to view the museum’s displays. Then we shall find out how they perceived, indeed whether they perceived, that the Hermitage is an encyclopaedia of world culture,” Mikhail Piotrovsky commented.
The General Director of the Hermitage also stated that the reconstruction of the world order currently taking place is being built on the foundations of culture.
“Politics is determined by cultural values. Traditional values are culture; historical memory is culture. Culture should build such an arrangement in which there is cultural sovereignty that does not cancel out the unity of world culture,” Mikhail Piotrovsky stressed.
As the General Director of the Hermitage particularly underlined, Saint Petersburg ought to play a serious role in these processes.
