More than 400 works from the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg have gone on show at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne for the Australian-exclusive exhibition “Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great,” the latest exhibition in the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series. Spanning the thirty-four year reign of Catherine the Great from 1762 to 1796, the specially assembled collection showcases the depth and breadth of Catherine the Great’s remarkable collection, revealing the scope of her innovation and vision.
