On 14 and 15 March 2019 the State Hermitage will be hosting an international scholarly conference on “The Museum in the 21st Century. Updating the Museum Space: Architecture, Exhibitions, Educational Programmes”. The central topic of the conference will be discussion of problems connected with updating the museum space – the architecture of buildings, the design of exhibitions and permanent displays, curatorial and educational programmes in interaction with today’s public.
The conference will be made of four blocks: the design of displays and exhibitions; new forms of educational and public programmes; innovative projects in museum architecture and their influence on a change of “museum climate”; “blockbuster” exhibitions in the modern-day museum: the reasons for their success with the public.
Those invited to participate in the conference include Zelfira Tregulova (Tretyakov Gallery), Elena Kalnitskaya (Peterhof Museum-Preserve), Pavel Prigara (St Petersburg Manege), Elizaveta Likhacheva (Shchusev State Museum of Architecture), the Russian and German architect Sergei Tchoban, Marina Elzesser (Tretyakov Gallery), architect Hani Rashid, architect Jane Lawson-Bell, artist and curator Katya Bochavar, architect Evgeny Asse and artist, director and curator Vera Martynov.
Registration for participation in the conference will be available soon through the website https://molodyozhnyy-tsent-events.timepad.ru/
