This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Yury Shmavonovich Abramov (1946–2021), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a professor of Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, outstanding art collector and creator of the Museum of the Daily Life of the Nobility.
Yury Abramov took part in several of the Patron’s Day annual events held at the Hermitage and made generous gifts to the museum. Among his particularly important and valuable presents was a statue of Jupiter made by the celebrated early 18th-century Venetian sculptor Antonio Tarsia.
In late 2023 and early 2024, the Hermitage acquired a considerable portion of its long-time friend and patron’s art collection. This included a marble bust of Michelangelo Buonarroti carved by Giovanni Antonio Dosio, a younger contemporary of the great master, a portrait of a woman painted by Francesco Morandini, a Florentine artist of the second half of the 16th century known as il Poppi, portraits of Russian rulers, unique pieces of furniture and applied art.
The best of the gifts and acquisitions will be presented at the exhibition devoted to the memory of Yury Shmavonovich Abramov.
